Why You Need to Consider Hypnobirthing

One of the most common misconceptions about hypnobirthing is that the class is ‘alternative’ or, for lack of a better word, ‘woo woo’. The truth is, hypnobirthing is quite the opposite. Hypnobirthing is an evidence-based approach to preparing for a positive and empowering birth experience. Hypnobirthing philosophy is based around preparing the mind and body to encourage physiological childbirth. To achieve this, we focus on understanding how our mindset is of paramount importance in birthing.

About Amelia

Hello! My name is Amelia and I am the face behind Birth and Baby Co. I’m a Registered Nurse specialising in newborns, with postgraduate qualifications in child and family health nursing. I am also an International Board-Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) and a Hypnobirthing Australia practitioner.

After many years working with parents and babies, and hearing their common concerns and questions, I came to realise the importance of high-quality education before someone transitions into parenthood. I offer Hypnobirthing Australia classes, newborn education, and breastfeeding assistance – both online and face to face in Sydney’s Eastern Suburbs.

My hope is to bring accessible information about birth, breastfeeding and newborn life to new parents. This time can be overwhelming, so I would love to help you with useful education and resources to make you feel EXCITED and EMPOWERED for a positive birth experience and to ensure your transition to parenthood is as smooth as possible.

Every family deserves a beautiful and positive birth and postpartum – I would love to connect with you and support you in this sacred journey.

Come and say hi on Instagram where I share lots of educational info, inspiration and a little more about me! Alternatively, you can visit my website at www.birthandbabyco.com.au to see my offerings and book a course.

As a society, we are conditioned to fear birth. From negative birth stories from friends, to unrealistic media presentations of birth – our subconscious mind is flooded with fear. Hypnobirthing helps to address these fears and provides tools and practices to release them, and change our view of birth. Common feedback I receive from couples who have completed the Hypnobirthing Australia course, is that they went into the course with a lot of fear, and at the completion of the course they were actually feeling really excited for their birthing day!

One of the biggest reasons to consider hypnobirthing when preparing for your birth is the resources included in the course. Attending any childbirth education class is not enough to prepare for your birth. That’s why we provide so many resources in the form of meditations, affirmation tracks, readings, music, breathing techniques, massage and touch tools, plus so much more. The purpose of all these resources and tools is so that you are able to continue practicing all the wonderful lessons taught in class. In doing this, you continue that important subconscious conditioning to change your fundamental views on the birthing process and prepare for a positive birth experience.

Another wonderful aspect of hypnobirthing is how much it empowers and educates birth partners. Often birth courses can be focused on the birthing process, leaving the partner a bit unsure about their place in the birth space. In my classes, birth partners are involved in every aspect of the education and are constantly reminded about their importance and presence when supporting the birthing mother. Birth partners are usually very appreciative of the in-depth discussions around choices, interventions, partner specific tools and the labour process. The knowledge a birth partner gains through hypnobirthing helps create an environment for the birthing mother to get in her zone and focus on her mindset, knowing that the birth partner is there to protect her space and advocate for her wishes.

Ultimately, hypnobirthing enables you to understand your options, ask appropriate questions and advocate for your wishes. Increasing knowledge in the birth space goes hand in hand with increasing your options and choices. Hypnobirthing is not about having one particular birth and it is not about your birth plan necessarily going 100% to plan. Instead, hypnobirthing provides couples with the knowledge base to make informed decisions so that every single choice made is their own and comes from a place of empowerment rather than fear.
